In 2018 the world lost William Goldman, writer of Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid, All the Presidents Men, and The Princess Bride, a movie that, to my great shame, I had never seen. As the industry, and beyond, recalled Goldman’s talent and success, I felt as if I was missing out on something tremendous.
There are few stories as pervasive in pop culture as that of Cathy and Heathcliff, and we can see its retelling everywhere. But how does the original novel fare in 2019?

Is the book always better? No. Here's a reason why.
The Catcher in the Rye is the kind of book which is said to change lives, yet this novel has never crossed my path. I have avoided the hype, so to speak. This week I change that.
At some point in 2019, Netflix will release a series called The Witcher. Supposedly. In the run up to this I'm re-reading the source material, starting with the excellent short story collection: The Last Wish.
This epic spaghetti-western, directed by Sergio Leone, and featuring a star-making turn from legendary actor/director Clint Eastwood, is next up on my Classically Lacking list. As always, the idea is to decide whether a so-called-classic is still worth our time in 2019.
I've tried, several times, to read on my phone, but these screen-reading experiences have always been painful. Now, finally, I've broken my duck.
Pride and Prejudice is about gender norms in 19th century society. It is about the supposed duty of marriage. It is about injustice, imbalance, and inequality. But how qualified am I to talk about that? All I want is to express that in 2019, Pride and Prejudice is worth turning back to, because it is still funny.
